[Mita-hyoron (official monthly journal published by Keio University Press) and Showa 100] Mita-hyoron (official monthly journal published by Keio University Press) and Showa 100 as Seen on the Covers

In the year marking the 100th year of the Showa era, this journal reached its 1,300th issue with the current issue (June 2025). We would like to introduce several covers that graced the Showa era. Please view them along with the reprinted articles and other materials (refer to "Mita-hyoron (official monthly journal published by Keio University Press) and Showa 100: On the Occasion of Reprinting and Republication of Past Articles").

January 1927 Issue (No. 353) / The first issue of the Showa era. The cover design during President Hayashi's tenure followed this style.
February 1935 Issue (No. 450) / The cover is by Western-style painter Sadao Tsubaki. Tsubaki taught as a drawing teacher at the Yochisha Elementary School from the early Showa years.
August 1936 Special Issue (No. 468) / The cover is a bird's-eye view of the basic design of the Mita Campus by Sone Chujo Architects. The laboratory building in the lower left was never completed.
January 1938 Issue (No. 485) / The cover is a landscape of Mita by Shintaro Suzuki. For several years thereafter, colorful landscapes of Mita by Suzuki would vibrantly decorate the covers.
October/November 1943 Combined Issue (No. 549) / The final pre-war issue. In stark contrast to the vibrancy of a few years prior, the cover is extremely simple and the paper quality is poor.
October 1951 Republication Issue (No. 550) / The memorable first issue of the republication. The title calligraphy is by Sei'ichiro Takahashi. Total of 64 pages.
November/December 1962 Combined Issue (No. 610) / For a while after the war, many covers featured photographs. Although it became a monthly publication in 1961, combined issues were still seen.
January 1989 Issue (No. 899) / The final issue of the Showa era. The cover art by Seiji Fujishiro began with the October 1966 issue and served as the face of this journal.
