Keio University

Keio Today

Building upon its foundation in education, research, and healthcare, Keio University works to address social challenges and create new value. Here you can find information on Keio’s initiatives that represent this work—our innovative educational approach leveraging AI technology, real-world implementation of research, support for entrepreneurship, collaborations with local and global communities, and more.

Creating the Future of Learning

By advancing initiatives such as the AI-Native University and data science education, Keio fosters curiosity throughout the entire institution, from its affiliated schools to its graduate programs. The university continues to expand its interdisciplinary programs, including team medical education that brings together medicine, nursing, and pharmacy. Keio also provides learning opportunities through FutureLearn as well as scholarship and career support. We strive to build a learning environment that prepares students to lead in a rapidly changing society.

The initiatives and opportunities mentioned above, whether they come in the form of AI and data science education programs, interdisciplinary programs, learning platforms, Keio’s rich learning environment, or its integrated programs, all fit the themes of education, global education, greater open access to learning, enhanced learning infrastructure, and integrated education in Keio’s mid-term plan.

Bringing Discoveries into Society

Keio seeks to move research outcomes beyond theory and apply them to real life to benefit society at large; we achieve this through collaborations between industry, government, and academia as well as through intellectual property management. With leading researchers from a wide range of fields, the university leverages its advanced research capabilities to focus on priority initiatives through centers under the Keio University Global Research Institute (KGRI). Through these efforts, Keio addresses diverse social challenges and translates cutting-edge knowledge into practical applications that contribute to a better future.

Challenging Our Students

Inspiring Entrepreneurship

Keio is expanding entrepreneurship education university-wide and strengthening its support for startups founded by students and researchers. Through programs such as the Keio Startup Incubation Program (KSIP) and collaboration with Keio Innovation Initiative (KII), Keio provides both funding and facilities to support new ventures. It aims to build an ecosystem that produces the industries and cultures of the future.

Addressing Social Challenges

Keio is committed to addressing global challenges such as carbon neutrality, the promotion of DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion), and disaster recovery support. In addition to contributing to society through healthcare, Keio actively promotes sports, arts, and culture. Guided by the concept of kyosei, or “living collaboratively,” the university works with local communities to realize a sustainable society.

Collaborating Globally

As a key member of international consortia such as the U7+ Alliance of World Universities and the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU), Keio works to address global challenges. The university is expanding its double-degree programs and English-taught degree courses to accelerate opportunities for learning across borders. With a diverse international student body and researchers collaborating closely with overseas institutions, Keio continues to strengthen its global presence as an open hub of knowledge.
