Keio University President Kohei Itoh and Vice-President Motohiro Tsuchiya attended the 30th Annual Presidents’ Meeting (APM) and Senior International Leaders’ Meeting (SLIM) of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU), hosted by the Chinese University of Hong Kong from June 21 to 24, 2026.

Approximately 150 presidents and senior leaders from the association’s member universities gathered for this year’s APM, which took place between June 21 and 23. Under the theme, “The Next Horizon: Shaping Universities for a Changing World,” attendees engaged in three lively days of talks addressing the most pressing challenges in higher education, including the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on teaching, learning, and research; the need to build sustainable and inclusive higher education systems; and the evolving role of universities as trusted institutions in an increasingly complex geopolitical and socio-economic landscape.

At the SILM, convened from June 23 to 24, VP-level senior leaders in charge of guiding international affairs at APRU member universities reflected on the theme, “What Does It Mean for Global Engagement to Be Resilient and Inclusive?” Attendees drew on their diverse perspectives to share best practices from their respective universities and discussed concrete measures for strengthening institutional capacity amid a rapidly changing global environment.

As a member of the APRU, Keio University will continue to advance initiatives that contribute to the development of the wider Pacific Rim region through dialogue and exchange with leaders from fellow member universities.
