Keio University Child Care Support Program

Keio University is pleased to announce the launch of the "Keio University Child Care Support Program (KIDS)" to support the balance between child-rearing and work. As introduced during new employee orientations and other occasions, Keio University currently operates various child care support systems. As further support, we are introducing new systems such as a Support Desk to serve as a consultation point for child-rearing and Child Care Support to assist with the cost of child care when classes are held on holidays. Together with existing systems, we will strengthen our structure to ensure that careers can be continued regardless of gender. The environment and needs for operating these systems may vary depending on the job type or campus. Some may say that the target audience for the provided support programs is limited and that child care has nothing to do with them. However, child care support is not an issue only for those currently raising children. Building a workplace environment that is easier to work in for those raising children increases the motivation of each individual and will surely have a positive impact on that workplace. From a medium-term perspective, it will increase labor productivity and at the same time contribute significantly to the human resource development of Keio University. For the smooth operation of the system, the warm understanding of those around us is more indispensable than anything else. Reaching out to support someone who needs help now is connected to the future of us all. "KIDS" is part of the various support programs provided by the Office for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. In the future, alongside the support systems provided by the Human Resources Division and the Keio Gijuku Health Insurance Association, we will continue to work not only on child care support but also on nursing care support, which more people will likely face, and support for people with disabilities. In response to requests for a consolidated guide on the support systems provided by the Human Resources Division and the Keio Gijuku Health Insurance Association along with the newly launched "KIDS," we are providing the guide "Overview of Child Care Support Systems at Keio University." To strongly support the balance between work and child-rearing for faculty and staff involved in research, education, and clinical practice, the Keio University Office for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion will sequentially start the "Keio University Child Care Support Program (KIDS)" from January 2020. This initiative complements various efforts already provided by the Human Resources Division and others (Child Care and Nursing Care Support) to further promote child care support for Keio University as a whole. Through this initiative, we will broadly support the work-life balance for faculty and staff raising children.  

This is the core service of the KIDS program. You can consult with staff who have specialized knowledge on a wide variety of topics, such as "support for finding a nursery school (ho-katsu)," "searching for nursery schools," "child-rearing consultations," "dietary education consultations (handled by registered dietitians)," "general gynecology," and "fertility treatment."

In addition to the consultation desk via a toll-free number exclusively for Keio University faculty and staff, consultations are also possible via LINE, also exclusively for Keio University faculty and staff. By registering this LINE account as a friend, you can not only consult via chat but also receive various information through regular distributions. Please feel free to use it.  

This is a subsidy system that allows researchers in the process of childbirth and child-rearing to hire temporary staff for a certain period in order to continue their research and education with as little hindrance as possible.

Eligibility:

Full-time faculty members (regardless of campus) who are pregnant at the time of application or are raising a child in the 3rd grade of elementary school or younger.

Support Period:

The period during which assistance for research or education (regular curriculum) is required.

Support Amount:

Maximum of 30,000 yen per month (including transportation expenses. Hourly wage is the amount prescribed by the Human Resources Division).  

We support the operation of child care services at academic conferences, research meetings, educational meetings, or arts-related conferences held within Keio where a full-time faculty or staff member of the Juku serves as the person in charge, with the aim of supporting the activities of faculty and staff. This service can be used by applying at least one month before the event. Additionally, the Office for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion will subsidize 60% of the required amount once per fiscal year (subject to budget limits).

If it becomes necessary to work on a holiday due to business reasons (such as the need to work for holiday class sessions, entrance examination duties falling on a holiday, or other regular duties with shifts on holidays), the Office for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion will provide a subsidy of 6,000 yen per use, up to a maximum of 10 times per fiscal year (subject to budget limits) when using child care services.

We will issue discount vouchers for the use of baby-sitter services to eligible faculty and staff members using the "Baby-sitter Dispatch Service" (a project commissioned by the Cabinet Office) implemented by the All Japan Childcare Services Association. By using this discount voucher, you can receive a discount of 2,300 yen per eligible child from the daily usage fee when using baby-sitter services.  

This is a system that provides space for breast pumping for faculty, staff, and Keio students who use the Mita Campus. By applying in advance, we will provide space that can be used freely whenever needed, free of charge.
