The Historic Heart of Keio University

The Mita Campus, synonymous with Keio University, embodies the history and traditions that have been ingrained since its founding. In particular, the Mita Enzetsukan (Public Speaking Hall), designated as a National Important Cultural Property, and the red-brick Old University Library preserve the spirit of the Meiji era for the present day, imbuing the campus with a scholarly atmosphere. Numerous literary monuments and artworks can be found throughout the grounds, including the Yukichi Fukuzawa Monument and a monument inscribed with a poem by Haruo Sato. As reflected in one of Keio University’s representative cheer songs, titled “Oka no Ue” (On the Hill), every road leading to the campus is a slope. At the top lies a garden of learning.

At the Mita Campus, undergraduate students in their second through fourth years from the Faculty of Letters, and third and fourth-year students from the Faculties of Economics, Law, and Business and Commerce study alongside graduate students from the Law School and the Graduate Schools of Letters, Economics, Law, Human Relations, and Business and Commerce. The girls’ high school and Chutobu Junior High School are also adjacent to the campus.
