From December 10 to 12, 2018, Keio University Provost Tojiro Aoyama was among the representatives of leading research university consortiums around the globe gathered in Geneva for the Global Council of Research-Intensive Universities Networks (GCRIUN). Held at the picturesque Villa Boninchi of the University of Geneva upon the invite of the League of European Research Universities (LERU), they were there to discuss common challenges in research, innovation, and education. Provost Tojiro Aoyama was representing the Research Universities 11 (RU 11) Japan of which he is in charge of global affairs.
Other participants included the Association of American Universities (AAU), the Association of East Asian Research Universities (AEARU), the Group of Eight Australia, the U15 Canada, the U15 Germany, and the Russell Group UK.
On the second day, December 11, there was an open discussion at the Knowledge and Learning Commons (UN Library), Palais des Nations, with representatives of the United Nations (UN) where the participants talked about how to strengthen the interface between academia and the UN.
