As a part of 2022 programming for Keio's Design the Future Fund, students participated in "X-Ship Survival Camp: a multigenerational co-creation leadership development experience." The event was held at the Fuji no Mori campgrounds (in Hinohara Village, Tokyo) over three days, from Tuesday, August 30 until Thursday, September 1. The goal of this program is to nurture "x-ship qualities" including "friendship," "leadership," "followership," and "ownership" in a co-creational learning environment. Another characteristic of the camp was that it was multigenerational, involving members from various levels of Keio’s integrated education system, from primary school to graduate school. The program closely reflects Keio’s core commitment to developing future leaders of society.
After attending preliminary workshops to learn about team building, communication, and necessary survival skills, such as how to set up a tent, 19 students participated in a range of activities throughout the camp. 12 of the students were from Keio Yokohama Elementary School, 4 of the students were from Keio Shonan Fujisawa Junior High School & Senior High School, and 3 of the students were from the Graduate School of System Design and Management. To assess the effectiveness of the program, participants filled out surveys before and after the X-Ship Survival Camp program regarding their self-perceptions of their own "x-ship qualities." They also shared their reflections and observations in discussions regarding their personal development of friendship, leadership, followership, ownership, and other key qualities.
