Athlete Yuki Koike (graduate of the Faculty of Policy Management; alumnus of the Keio University Athletic League) finished in fourth place in the final of the men’s 100 meter event at the IAAF’s Diamond League meeting in London, equaling the second fastest ever time by a Japanese athlete of 9.98 seconds. His stunning performance represents only the third time ever a Japanese athlete has completed the 100 meters in under ten seconds.
Koike also recorded a time of 20.24 seconds in his main event of 200 meters, which took place on the 21st, in the process achieving the qualifying standard for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. There are burgeoning expectations around Koike’s future activities.
