The SFC Open Research Forum (ORF) 2018 was held over the two days of Thursday, November 22 and Friday, November 23 at Tokyo Midtown in Roppongi.
The purpose of this event, which is held in November every year, is to give back to the community through the sharing of the achievements (seeds) of the advanced research activities conducted at Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC), and to further develop industry-government-academia collaboration.
Displays, pitches, and talk sessions were held under the theme of "After the Next Societies" in 2018.
At this year’s 23rd ORF, in addition to the displays and talk sessions which have been held to date, "pitches" were introduced as a platform for researchers to give engaging accounts of their own research on stage.
In the exhibition booth area, 64 groups presenting around 110 projects generated lively discussions and there were extensive exchanges of knowledge.
At the pitch venues, 50 speakers and SFC graduates made presentations brimming with originality on two distinctive stages.
Additionally, at the talk session venues, discussants from various circles including the business community and government were invited, and about 30 sessions, which included sponsor sessions given by the patrons and sessions by laboratory members, were held. Heated debates unfolded and there was also much excitement during the chat times.
