The Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care offered its first short-term program for overseas students in the 2016 academic year from Monday, February 6 to Friday, February 10 over five days. The tailor-made program, designed to meet the specific requests of the participants, was created with the cooperation of the students of the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care.
Sixteen students who study nursing and medical care at Eulji University (South Korea), Fudan University (China), and the University of Suffolk (UK), and sixteen students at Keio University’s Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care participated in the program. The students toured and trained at the Keio University Hospital, and also got to see and receive training in home nursing through the visiting nursing station. The students were put into groups that included members from each university, and in pairs of one Keio student and one international student, they worked together to complete the training exercises. During the presentations given on the final day, the students presented and discussed the differences in the nursing and health care systems among their home countries.
The students said that the program was useful because they got to know about the different nursing and health care systems in different countries. They also commented that even if the nursing and health care system is different, the mission of nurses is the same in all countries. The five-day program gave new viewpoints and motivation to those studying to become nurses.
