Yagami Campus and Shonan Fujisawa Campus join the Keihin Coastal Area Life Innovation Zone

Update:Nov. 19, 2013

In October 2013, Yagami Campus and Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC) were newly designated as part of the “Keihin Coastal Area Life Innovation Zone” developed jointly by Kanagawa Prefecture, Yokohama City, and Kawasaki City under the Japanese government initiative to establish “Comprehensive Special Zones for International Competitiveness Development.” The Keihin Coastal Area Life Innovation Zone was first established in December 2011 with the aim of adapting to the age of personalized and preventive medicine by promoting the development and manufacture of innovative pharmaceutical products and medical devices by global companies and developing health-related industries. Yagami and SFC were two of thirteen new areas added to the zone this October.

At Yagami, the initiative will focus on projects for the promotion of medical information database formation and collaboration between the fields of medicine and engineering. SFC will implement big data analysis for the purpose of clarifying evidence concerning Chinese and Eastern medicine. Under the Keihin Coastal Area Life Innovation Zone initiative, Keio will strive to further promote research and generate innovation.

Among the other areas newly designated to the Keihin Coastal Area Life Innovation Zone, the Shin-Kawasaki area includes Keio's Shin-Kawasaki Town Campus (K2) and the 4-University Nano/Micro Fabrication Consortium, of which Keio is a founding member. Moreover, Keio’s School of Medicine is participating in a joint research project at the Central Institute for Experimental Animals in the Tonomachi (King Sky Front) area, one of the originally designated areas of the zone.
