Lectures and Panel Discussion on "Legal Reform and the Judicial System in Myanmar: Current Situation and Direction for Future Development"

On November 28 (Wed.), the Keio University Law School and Faculty of Law hosted lectures and a panel discussion on "Legal Reform and the Judicial System in Myanmar: Current Situation and Direction for Future Development" at the North Hall on Mita Campus.

Amid growing public interest, this event was held with the aim of strengthening relations between Japan and Myanmar. Following opening speeches from guest speakers and senior faculty members, including President Atsushi Seike and Professor Naoya Katayama, Dean of the Keio University Law School, lectures were given by H.E. Mr. Htun Htun Oo, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Myanmar, who was on his first visit to Japan; Mr. Sein Than, Director General of the Supreme Court of Myanmar; Mr. Tu Jar, Chief Justice of the High Court of Kachin State; and Ms. Thin Thin Nwe, Judge of the High Court of Yangon Region. A number of the speakers then joined other experts for a panel discussion, after which Professor Yukata Oishi, Dean of the Faculty of Law, gave a closing speech.

Many students, faculty members, and staff gathered for this special opportunity to learn about Myanmar's judicial system from distinguished experts with firsthand experience in the field.
