London Olympic / Paralympic Athlete Homecoming Hosted by President Seike

Update:Oct. 03, 2012

A total of seven Keio University students and alumni competed in various events during this summer’s London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. A homecoming ceremony was held on October 1 (Mon.) in the West Hall on Mita Campus in honor of their strong showing at the London Games.

Applause erupted from the many students, board members, faculty and staff members who gathered to watch as Paralympian Saki Takakuwa (Second-year, Faculty of Policy Management) and Olympians Masato Yokota (Alumni, Faculty of Policy Management), Ryo Miyake (Fourth-year, Faculty of Letters), Ryo Tateishi (Fourth-year, Faculty of Environment and Information Studies), Ryota Yamagata (Second-year, Faculty of Policy Management), and Manami Doi (First-year, Faculty of Policy Management) made their way to the stage.

Following a hearty rendition of Alma Mater “The Juku-ka” and an opening address from President Seike, each athlete gave a short self-introduction. The hall was soon enveloped in an atmosphere filled with warmth and laughter during interviews with each athlete by the student master of ceremonies; each athlete’s comments gave a glimpse of their affable personalities as they told of the fierce competition in London. The celebration ended with Keio fight song “Wakaki-chi”, in which all attendees sang with their arms around each other’s shoulders in a show of Keio unity.
