The 2012 Keio University Entrance Ceremony was held on Monday, April 2, at the Hiyoshi Commemorative Hall. This year we welcomed a total of 6,656 students, including students from the Japanese Language Program.

This year, Keio University held two entrance ceremonies, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, to accommodate students. The morning ceremony was held for the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Business and Commerce, the Faculty of Science and Technology, and the Japanese Language Program. The afternoon ceremony was held for the Faculty of Letters, Faculty of Economics, School of Medicine, Faculty of Policy Management, the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care, and the Faculty of Pharmacy.

At the ceremony, Vice-President Akira Haseyama gave the incoming class report, which was followed by a welcome address by President Atsushi Seike in both Japanese and English. Students received congratulatory speeches on behalf of the faculty from Prof. Yoko Wake of the Faculty of Business and Commerce (morning) and from Prof. Eiji Hosoda of the Faculty of Economics (afternoon). Takuo Takihana, executive advisor to the Yomiuri Giants, and Mitsuo Ohashi, senior advisor at Showa Denko K.K., represented alumni in congratulating students, speaking at the morning and afternoon ceremonies respectively. Incoming class representatives Maya Hirohara of the Faculty of Science and Technology (morning) and Shota Utsumi of the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies (afternoon) made speeches expressing their joy of entering Keio University and aspirations for university life.

The Alma Mater “The Juku-ka” was sung by everyone in unison, and the ceremony ended with a presentation of contributions and a short address by representatives of the 50th anniversary alumni, the “103-Nen Mita-kai” (Class of 1962).

Enveloped in an air of excitement and celebration, Hiyoshi campus teemed with new students and family, many of whom stayed even after the ceremony to take photographs.
