New Year’s Greetings from the President

Update:Jan. 01, 2011
Prof. Atsushi Seike President, Keio University

Happy New Year to you all. As we celebrate the start of the year, I wish you the best of health and happiness for 2011.

Today we are living in a time of great change, in which the sustainability of the global environment and human society itself are being called into question. Yukichi Fukuzawa, who also lived in a time of great turbulence when Japan underwent profound changes throughout the Meiji Restoration, stressed above all the importance of learning for maintaining and promoting the independence of Japan and advancing society within such turmoil.

In keeping with Fukuzawa’s spirit, I hope that Keio University, through learning, will continue to contribute to society by nurturing human resources who can tackle the major issues that confront human society; producing research results that help to solve these issues; and furthering the quality of its medicine, leading to the promotion of the health of humankind.

Keio University has always been helped in its endeavors by its students, faculty and staff, and especially by its vigorously supportive alumni. I hope Keio has your continuing support in the year ahead.
