President Seike attends International Conference on Higher Education and Governance,Yonsei University 125th Anniversary

On May 7, 2010, at the invitation of Yonsei University in Korea, President Seike attended the International Conference on Higher Education and Governance, held as part of the Yonsei University 125th Anniversary.

In Session 1, “The Future of University Governance: Can We Reform Ourselves?”, President Seike gave a presentation on the governance of universities in Japan and of Keio University, together with presentations from Prof. Han-Joong Kim, President of Yonsei University, and Prof. Paul Webley, Principal of the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), UK. The presenters were joined afterwards by Prof. Xianming XU, President of Shandong University, China, and Prof. Lap-Chee Tsui, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hong Kong, for a discussion on the theme of Session 1.

In Session 2, “University Finances in the 21st Century: Where’s the Money Coming From?”, after presentations from the President of Shandong University and the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hong Kong, President Seike participated in a discussion with them, the President of Yonsei University, and the Principal of SOAS.

In Session 3, in the afternoon, President Seike, Yonsei graduates who are globally active and other conference participants all gave their encouragement to Yonsei students who will help shoulder the future of Asia.

Yonsei and Keio have a longstanding partnership. Since concluding a university-wide partnership agreement in 1970 there has been wide-ranging exchange between the two universities, including not only student and faculty member exchange, but also individual partnerships at faculty or institute level, the implementation of a double-degree program, and the establishment of university offices on each other’s campuses.
