Fumika won second prize at the International Violin Competition Premio Paganini in March and was awarded the 6th prize at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Belgium in May. When she was in her third year of high school, she became the youngest ever first-prize winner of the Seoul International Music Competition. She started to play the violin at the age of 3. “Not once did I get sick of it. I love to play the violin, because the sound is close to the human voice, and I can put much expression into it when I play.” At the Faculty of Letters, she majors in German literature. “It’s hard to balance practice with study, but studying German and Western culture helps to gain a deep understanding of the background of classical music.” At university, she has been able to expand her horizon through meeting classmates who support her and friends who take on challenges in different fields. “I want to practice more, and in the future, I want to play the violin around the world,” she says.
Fumika will study abroad at Kronberg Academy in Germany from September to develop her skills even further.
