Chess: A Sport & Communication Tool

Chess Club

Chess is the most-played mind sport in the world. There is nothing better than deciding the perfect move through intuitive and logical speculation. Additionally, chess is a way of communication all unto itself, so we can interact with individuals from all over the world through it, even if we don't speak the same language.
The Chess Club usually meets in a classroom three times a week to play and discuss tactics in friendly competition. Some members even participate in official competitions. In recent years, the Keio Chess Club's track record includes winning the 2011 Team Championships and 2012 All-Japan Championships. We even have members who have been invited to play in international tournaments. We also have a lot of interaction with other universities and working people by holding networking events, dinner parties, and training camps in addition to the usual going out and having a good time. During the Mita Festival we share our love of chess by opening the Chess Café, where visitors can learn how to play from our members.

The Most Intense Club at Keio

Triathlon Team J.

We are the one and only triathlon team at Keio. Triathlon Team J. practices five times a week and participates in a number of events during the summer, which means "triathlon season" to us. We will represent Keio University during the national tournaments to be held this September. Our activities span throughout the year. During the off-season winter months, we run marathons and relay races and climb mountain passes on road bikes.
All of our members have their own aims and goals, some aspiring to win the national championships or to participate in national championships, and still others who simply want to be able to say that they have finished the race. Though our goals may differ, we are united in our earnest approach to competition and can proudly say that our team's morale at any given triathlon is the highest of any at Keio.
We invest so much time and energy into this rigorous sport because of the sense of solidarity among fellow members, the feeling of accomplishment when finishing a race, and that indescribable elation you get from winning a race.
