The 2013 Undergraduate Entrance Ceremony was held on Monday, April 1, at Hiyoshi Commemorative Hall. This year Keio welcomed a total of 6,840 students, including students from the Japanese Language Program.

Keio University held two entrance ceremonies, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, to accommodate student numbers. The afternoon ceremony was held for the Faculty of Letters, Faculty of Economics, School of Medicine, Faculty of Policy Management, Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care, and Faculty of Pharmacy.

At the ceremony, Vice-President Akira Haseyama gave the incoming class report, which was followed by a welcome address by President Atsushi Seike in both Japanese and English. Students received congratulatory speeches on behalf of the faculty from Prof. Shinnosuke Obi of the Faculty of Science and Technology (morning) and from Prof. Tomoko Betsuyaku of the School of Medicine (afternoon). On behalf of Keio alumni, Junsuke Katoh, Executive Adviser at Koito Manufacturing Co., Ltd., and Nobuo Kamino, Senior Adviser at Chubu Gas Co., Ltd., congratulated students at the morning and afternoon ceremonies respectively. Incoming class representatives Naoya Ohira of the Faculty of Science and Technology (morning) and Yuki Hoshi (afternoon) of the School of Medicine made speeches expressing their joy of entering Keio University and aspirations for university life.

The Alma Mater “The Juku-ka” was sung in unison by all who attended, and the ceremony ended with a presentation of contributions and a short address by representatives of the 50th anniversary alumni, the “104-Nen Mita-kai” (Class of 1963).

Following the solemn ceremony, the Keio University Cheerleading Club took center stage. New students clapped to the rhythm and shouts of the Cheerleading Club members leading on stage.

Some faculties took advantage of the time before and after the ceremony to conduct class announcements, guidance, and English placement tests, and all of the new students looked eager to begin college life.
