Launching Ceremony of the B.A. Double Degree Program between Keio University Faculty of Economics and Sciences Po

As Keio University Faculty of Economics and the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po) start a B.A. Double Degree Program next spring, those involved of both institutions gathered on October 22 to hold a launching ceremony.
Attendees from Sciences Po included Mr. Ludovic Chaker (Director of the Centre for Asia and the Pacific) in place of the Vice-President in charge of international affairs, Ms. Delphine Grouès (Dean of the Europe-Asia Campus, Le Havre), Ms. Régine Serra (the Centre for Asia and the Pacific) and Prof. Patrick Messerlin (Keio University Visiting Professor), and from Keio University, President Atsushi Seike, Vice-President Akira Haseyama of academic affairs, Prof. Shinsuke Nakamura, Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Prof. Masamichi Komuro, former Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Prof. Colin McKenzie of the Faculty of Economics and Associate Prof. Chikako Kashiwazaki of the Faculty of Economics. Ms. Catherine Droszewski (Attaché of University Cooperation) of the French Embassy was also invited to the ceremony as a guest.
First, the letter of agreement signed on September 13 was handed to President Seike from Mr. Chaker. In his welcoming speech, President Seike emphasized the significance of this B.A. Double Degree Program in light of the long-term collaboration between the two institutions. Keio University and Sciences Po signed a partnership agreement in 1987 and since then have continued to strengthen their ties through numerous exchanges of students and researchers. President Seike said he was very pleased to start this program next year, marking the 25th anniversary of the partnership.
Other attendees mentioned that the M.A. double degree program of the Graduate School of Economics and Sciences Po which started in 2009 has already achieved excellent results, and that this program has merits not only in terms of academic research but also in solid liberal arts education and character development through living in different cultures. Everyone present at the ceremony placed high expectations toward this new program and promised to work together for its success.
