Fall 2011 Keio University Entrance Ceremony -the first time GIGA students join-

Fall 2011 Keio University Entrance Ceremony was held on Friday, September 16 at the Hiyoshi Commemorative Hall of Hiyoshi Campus. This year’s intake of undergraduate programs was a total of 132 students. (Faculty of Law: 1, Faculty of Policy Management: 7, Faculty of Environment and Information Studies: 27, Japanese Language Program: 97) Newly enrolled students in master degree programs were 108 students (Graduate School of Letters: 5, Graduate School of Economics: 2, Graduate School of Science and Technology: 43, Graduate School of Media and Governance: 39, Graduate School of System Design and Management: 5, and Graduate School of Media Design: 14), and there were 32 new students in doctor degree programs. (Graduate School of Science and Technology: 23, Graduate School of Media and Governance: 8, and Graduate School of Media Design: 1) The ceremony was held also for 1,847 enrolled postgraduate students of April 2011 (Master's programs: 1,350, Doctoral programs: 268, Professional Degree program(Law School): 229) due to postponement of Spring 2011 Postgraduate Entrance Ceremony in consideration of the Great East Japan Earthquake.

At the ceremony Vice-President Akira Haseyama gave the Incoming Class Report which was followed by a welcome address from President Atsushi Seike. Prof. Kenichi Takano at Graduate School of System Design and Management also made a congratulatory speech. On behalf of the new students, Kaori Tanaka at Faculty of Environment and Information Studies made a speech. In her speech, she expressed her goals to think for oneself what one can do as a unviersity student with conviction, and she got a lot of applause from participants in the hall.
The ceremony ended with Alma Mater “The Juku-ka” sung by all the participants.
There were many new students from all over the world which made the ceremony filled with international atmosphere.

From September 2011, the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies is offering the GIGA Program, an international undergraduate program taught in English that integrates information and communication technology with governance skills. Students who complete the program will be awarded a bachelor’s degree. New students of the GIGA Program started their campus life from September 22 at Shonan Fujisawa Campus.
