Harvard University President Drew Gilpin Faust visits Keio
On March 16, 2010, President, Harvard University, Drew Gilpin Faust visited Keio’s Mita Campus to meet with President Seike and students and graduates of Keio Girls Senior High School.
President Seike and Vice Presidents of Keio welcomed President Faust in front of the Old University Library. Then President Seike showed showcases of documents about Yukichi Fukuzawa.
After that, the meeting was presided over by Prof. Jiro Tamura of the Faculty of Law and proceeded with greeting by President Seike. President Faust delivered a message to young women as the first female president in Harvard's history. When the students and graduates of Keio Girls Senior High School asked President Faust of women's career or her hard experience, President Faust expressed that she expects for them to build their career to change the world.
In 1890, Yukichi Fukuzawa established university departments thanks to the efforts of then-President of Harvard University, Charles William Eliot. Keio and Harvard have been exchanging students and academic staff members.
