Keio University students participate in Model G8 Youth Summit 2007 Berlin

Model G8 Youth Summit 2007 Berlin, an international conference by students stimulating the real conference, was held in Berlin from 26 April to 1 May, and 9 students from Keio University participated in the event. The 9 students included 1 student from Graduate School of Media and Governance, 5 from the Faculty of Policy Management, 1 from the Faculty of Environmental Information, 1 from the School of Medicine and 1 from the Faculty of Economics.

8 representatives from 8 countries each took the position of head of state, sherpa, foreign minister, defense minister, economy minister, finance minister, development minister or minister for the environment. During the three day event, important G8-agenda were discussed. Students from China, Brazil and South Africa joined as observers, and the view point of developing countries was incorporated in issues of African development and customs. The finance minister conference discussed hedge funds, and the foreign minister conference discussed the Darfur conflict. On the final day, the communiqué was finally drawn up and officially agreed on by the heads of states. The final communiqué will be presented to the German government shortly.

The 2008 G8 summit is scheduled to be held in Hokkaido Japan, and as clearly stated in the final communiqué, the Model G8 Youth Summit 2008 will also be held in Japan, in the city of Yokohama.
