Ryo Miyake wins a gold medal at the World Juniors & Cadets Fencing Championship
Miyake Ryo, a second year student and member of the fencing team of Keio Senior High School, competed in the World Juniors & Cadets Fencing Championship held in Belek, Turkey from 10 April to 12 April. At the finals against an Italian opponent, he won 15 to14 to earn a victory in the cadet category.
The World Fencing Championship has 4 categories; cadet (U-17), junior (U-20), senior (no age limit) and veteran (O-50). There has never been a victory by a Japanese in any of the categories, and Miyake became the first Japanese to win the gold medal at the World Fencing Championship.
