Keio University team takes 3rd prize at RoboCup 2006

On June 18, "EIGEN", a research team from Keio’s Faculty of Science and Technology led by Professor Kazuo Yoshida, won 3rd prize in the middle size (soccer) league at the RoboCup 2006 World Championships held in Bremen, Germany.

23 teams from 9 countries, included 5 teams from Japan, participated in the middle size league tournament. EIGEN, who was champion at the past two RoboCup tournaments, lost its semifinal match against COPS Stuttgart from Stuttgart University by 2 points. Of the top 4 finalists, EIGEN was the only non-German entry.

RoboCup is an international robot soccer competition whose ultimate goal is to develop humanoid robots capable of beating the human world soccer champions by 2050. The games this year featured 440 teams from 36 countries and more than 15,000 spectators. For more information about RoboCup 2006, please visit the official website.
