The DMC Institute Symposium for International Collaboration and the Establishment of Global Digital Studios in Asia
The Keio University Research Institute for Digital Media and Content (DMC Institute) has established DMC studios to function as global centers at two of the foremost universities in Asia, Tsinghua University in China and Yonsei University in South Korea.
On March 13, the Keio University Research Institute for Digital Media and Content (Location: Mita, Minato-ku, Tokyo; part of the MEXT Strategic Research Center Development Program, Special Coordination Funds for Promoting Science and Technology; CEO: Yuichiro Anzai; hereinafter “DMC Institute”) held a public symposium, "The DMC Institute Symposium for International Collaboration – Global Sharing of Wisdom in the Digital Communication Era”, at the Keio University Studio located on the Mita Campus. A ceremony was held to commemorate the establishment of studios in Asia at Tsinghua University in China and Yonsei University in South Korea. Tsinghua University Vice President Ke Gong (International Affairs) participated from the Tsinghua University Studio, and Yonsei University President Jung Chang-young participated from the Yonsei University Studio via a teleconferencing system. Representatives of the three institutions, displayed on screens at the symposium venue, pledged to maintain active cooperation on a mutual basis in order to develop education in Asia.
The establishment of these studios represents the practical implementation of two Memoranda of Understanding, the General Academic Exchange Agreement with Tsinghua University (signed 26 February 2004) and the Comprehensive Agreement with Yonsei University (signed 12 December 2004).
The DMC Institute intends to establish more centers in North America, Europe and Asia in the near future. These global centers will be used to develop international research activities through joint-research projects with partner institutions all over the world. In addition to the promotion of the creation and distribution of digital content, Keio University will also explore training programs to nurture internationally-minded human resources as part of its role as a comprehensive educational institution.
