Artist Hiroshi Senju Presented with Certificate of Appreciation
On the afternoon of Monday January 23, internationally acclaimed artist and Keio alumnus Hiroshi Senju visited the Mita Campus, where he was presented with a certificate of appreciation for volunteering his time and skill to create the logo for the university’s 150th anniversary. The ceremony was held in the Old University Library.
Keio University is planning many projects and events to commemorate the 2008 milestone. Some of these projects will span the ten year period from 2005 to 2015, and have already begun. Mr. Senju’s design captures the central concept of the 150th anniversary, “Design the Future”, by conveying the university’s commitment both to being an open and dynamic institution, as well as to the equal importance of independence and collaboration.
President Yuichiro Anzai, Vice President Norikazu Kudo and Vice President Tatsuya Sakamoto attended the presentation ceremony. President Anzai presented Mr. Senju with the certificate of appreciation, written in English as it will hang in his New York gallery, and expressed his gratitude to him for creating the logo on a voluntary basis.
After receiving the certificate, Mr. Senju said “I put all of my energy into creating this logo. I hope that it will be a symbol of communication and understanding for projects commemorating the 150th anniversary of Keio University.”
The logo is designed to have a broad appeal and will be used in a variety of ways for all of the university’s commemorative projects and events.
