Shinzo Koizumi National High School Student Essay Contest winners announced

An awards ceremony was held at Mita Campus on January 10, for the 30th annual Shinzo Koizumi National High School Student Essay Contest and President Yuichiro Anzai presented each of the winners with an award certificate and a gift. After the ceremony, contest judges and other attendees participated in a reception for the contest winners.

This contest was established in 1976 on the tenth anniversary of the death of Professor Shinzo Koizumi with the purpose of improving the written expression skills of young people. Participants choose one of four essay topics related to Yukichi Fukuzawa, founder of Keio University. Submissions were accepted between May and September last year and 157 high school students from all over the country sent in their outstanding compositions.

The winners are as follows:
Shinzo Koizumi Prize -Eiko Shimizu (11th grade, William Fremd High School, USA)
Runner-Up - Shota Tanaka (1st year, Waseda University Honjo Senior High School, Saitama)
Honorable Mention - Tsubasa Takahashi (3rd year, Kashiwazaki Senior High School, Niigata)
Honorable Mention - Hiroshi Nakao (3rd year, Unebi Senior High School, Nara)
Honorable Mention - Shiho Hashiguchi (3rd year, Nobeoka Gakuen High School, Miyazaki)
