KEITA the Receptionist Robot Arrives at the Admissions Center

Update:Nov. 11, 2005

On Wednesday October 26, KEITA the receptionist robot made his official debut at the Admissions Center (1st floor, South School Building on the Mita Campus). As an autonomous mobile robot, KEITA's job is to meet and greet visitors to the Admissions Center. After introducing himself, KEITA can answer questions about the university, admissions and campus tours. KEITA can also direct visitors to the locations of last year's entrance exam papers, guidebooks, and videos about the university as he moves around the Admissions Center. Once he has finished helping visitors, KEITA returns to his desk to recharge. At the moment, KEITA only understands Japanese but there are plans to teach him other languages, such as English, in the future. KEITA was developed with the assistance of Instructors Masaki Takahashi and Hikari Fujii, as well as graduate and undergraduate students from the Faculty of Science and Technology. This winning team was also responsible for two consecutive victories in the middle-sized league of the RoboCup, the soccer robot World Cup, in 2004 and 2005.
