World’s First Transmission of Real-time 4K Digital Video Across the Pacific

Update:Nov. 04, 2005

On September 27, Keio University achieved the world’s first successful real-time transmission of 4K (8 megapixels – four times the resolution of HDTV) digital video across the Pacific between Keio University and the University of California, San Diego. This demonstration was held as a part of “iGrid 2005”, an international workshop and symposium held in the USA.

During the demonstration, DMC Director and Keio University President Yuichiro Anzai and Chancellor Marye Anne Fox of the University of California, San Diego were connected by a 4K live video link and both parties affirmed the further enhancement of their cooperative partnership for education and research into advanced networks and video technology.

In the near future, Keio University will carry out joint-research related to the creation and transmission of high quality digital content using high-speed networks, in conjunction with related research institutes at the University of California, San Diego and the University of Southern California.
