The First Partnership with an Irish University: University College Dublin
Keio and University College Dublin
signed a comprehensive exchange agreement on 6th October 2005 – the first with a University in Ireland. The ceremony was attended by Professor William Hall, Vice-President for International Affairs at UCD, and President Anzai from Keio.
UCD was established in 1855, just three years before Keio, and has celebrated its 150th anniversary last year - Keio celebrates the same in the year 2008. It is also the alma mater of legendary Irish writer, James Joyce. University College Dublin is widely recognized as a dynamic and modern institution of higher education、and is committed to becoming one of the top 30 research universities in the EU.
According to Prof. Hall, 40% of the population in Ireland is under 25 years old. The country’s economy is booming and the people are optimistic. Both universities are confident that this exchange will provide many exciting opportunities for Keio and UCD students interested in broadening their horizons.
