Writer’s agent Tatsuro Murakami speaks at the 680th Public Speaking Event of Keio University

Update:Feb. 25, 2005

The traditional public speaking event of Keio University was held in Mita Public Speaking Hall on December 8th.

We welcomed one of our graduates Tatsuro Murakami, president of the writer’s agency “Boiled Eggs” as the lecturer. Mr. Murakami graduated the faculty of letters at Keio University in 1976 and joined Hayakawa Publishing, Inc. He participated to the foundation of the “Hayakawa Mystery Library” and introduced many overseas mystery and nonfiction works. After becoming independent in 1999, he established his own publishing company "Boiled Eggs" and has been a successful agent ever since.

The speech entitled "The discovery and encouragement of new talent”, started with a speech about his first career as a publisher in Hayakawa Publishing, Inc. followed by an introduction of his worthwhile second career as an agent using both Miura and Takimoto as an example. Shiwon Miura and Tatsuhiko Takimoto are two famous writers he fostered and came to publish their work. He pointed out that even though reading books has become an old institution, young generation still picks good novels within the small amount of money and finally concluded the speech with showing his ambition of discovering more talents and to introduce them to the world. During the Q&A session, been asked about the most challenging moment of being a writer agent, he replied with confidence that "the most delightful moment is when republication is decided", that having their work appraised is the most impenetrable difficulty and overcoming it gives an unforgettable joy.
